Coach Robert Cox

The Collegiate Tennis Challenge is honored to welcome Coach Robert Cox, one of the most accomplished and respected coaches in the history of collegiate tennis and a true Razorback legend.

Coach Cox served as the Head Men's Tennis Coach at the University of Arkansas from 1987 to 2013, building the Razorback program into a nationally recognized competitor during his remarkable 26-year career. He concluded his tenure as the winningest coach in Arkansas men's tennis history, recording 323 dual match victories, accounting for more than 42 percent of the program's all-time wins.

Under Coach Cox's leadership, Arkansas reached nine NCAA Tournament appearances, advanced to six NCAA Regional Finals, and made a memorable Sweet Sixteen appearance. His student-athletes earned 13 All-America honors, 23 All-SEC selections, seven Southwest Conference championships, two ITA National Championships, two ITA No. 1-ranked singles players, and the program's first No. 1-ranked doubles team in the nation.

Beyond the impressive wins and championships, Coach Cox built a program founded on character, academic excellence, and leadership. His players consistently graduated at an exceptional rate while competing at the highest levels of collegiate tennis, a testament to the values he instilled in every student-athlete who wore the Razorback uniform.

Before arriving at Arkansas, Coach Cox served as Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Tyler Junior College, following successful tenures as Head Tennis Professional at Kansas Country Club and Willowbrook Country Club.

His extraordinary contributions to the sport have earned him induction into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor, in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to excellence in coaching and the development of young men, both on and off the court.

In 2026, when the University of Arkansas announced plans to discontinue its men's and women's tennis programs, Coach Cox became a leading voice advocating for Razorback tennis. Alongside alumni, former players, and the Arkansas tennis community, he passionately championed the program's importance and legacy. Following an overwhelming outpouring of support, the University ultimately reinstated both programs—a powerful reminder of the lasting impact Coach Cox and generations of Razorbacks have made on Arkansas athletics.

Please join us in welcoming one of the greatest ambassadors the game of tennis has ever known, former University of Arkansas Head Men's Tennis Coach Robert Cox.
